How to plan a destination Wedding
SO, you’re thinking of having a destination wedding but you don’t know how or where to start….
Planning a wedding generally can be very stressful for anybody and especially if you’re planning it from a far, I have written down just a couple of things that can help you on your way to plan your wedding day or the other option is to hire a destination wedding planner.
Choosing your destination
There is so many places to choose from and so many untouched areas that’s are breath-taking, where you will get the best of everything, for me having a great atmosphere and great food is a must, but you could like places that are hidden away in the hills. Choose a place that you both love, you may have a place that you both have always wanted to go to or a place that’s far enough to go to that your guests can travel to – you don’t want great uncle Cedric to travel a 15 hour flight and then have jet lag…
I would highly advise you both to choose it together and just YOU TWO, remember this is your wedding. Obviously you will no doubt have people that will complain about going somewhere no matter where you choose, but I highly stress that you listen to your inner self. I’m not saying don’t consider others just don’t stress about it too much.
Marriage requirements for your destination wedding
Once you have chosen your destination, I would defiantly recommended contacting the local authorities, there are so many rules and regulations about destination weddings, you may need to do the legal part at home first and then have the ceremony at your dream location.
Once you have the all clear choose your date, venue and then get those invites our ASAP, this will give your guests time to book.
So you have your venue booked, legal things sorted and invites out, the next item would be contacting your venue for a referred suppliers list, look at their views and ask the hotel if you are able to bring suppliers in that are not on their list, if they are happy with that then get googling, I only say this because it’s nice to have options. Consider hiring a destination wedding planner, someone who will help you a great deal, they will know which suppliers to use and who not to use. Hiring a wedding planner can illuminate the stress of not knowing what to do when your 1000s of miles away and they are there.
Pros & Cons
There are so many pros and cons to having your wedding abroad than local.
Pros of having a destination wedding
· You’re getting away from the hustle and bustle
· Keeping it small and intimate, so a smaller guest list
· You can save yourself £1000’s
· 2 for the price of 1 – honeymoon there too
· You will avoid stressful family arguments
Cons of having a destination wedding
· Not everyone will be able to attend
· You will have your family there on your honeymoon – but pros you can extend your stay, so you are there after everyone has gone.
I had my wedding locally to me and it was amazing – a couple of small hiccups but nothing stressful. We had hired the entire venue exclusively BUT the money that was spent, I could have gone away somewhere amazing, had my beach wedding and paid for the most important people to be there, but we choose to be local.
We all have our own idea on what we truly want – just enjoy it and take it in.
